How to Use White Space in Your HTML Email Template

White space in an HTML email is one of the greatest faux pas that you can ever commit. White space is basically unused space that turns up empty once the email is published. It is safe to therefore say that there was an error when choosing the specific email template or when planning out the content of the email. An HTML email template is one of those tools that is supposed to reduce your dependency on a creative team and coding team by allowing you to simply plug your content in between some HTML tags. Unfortunately, if you run out of content, then you could end up with some blank areas in your email. There is nothing more irritating than huge blocks of white, nothingness in a screen. However, white space could also be the result of some improper coding in your HTML code. Assuming that your problems have been caused by a paucity of content and not because of some kind of HTML coding error, here are few things that you can do to beef up your content.

Links are an incredibly interesting way to use white space in an HTML email template. Links are basically sections that contain an image and some excerpts from some expert on your product and service to endorse you. This is has two positive uses: one the one hand, you can use this as a space filler; on the other hand, you can use this space to increase the credibility of your email and evoke even more user interest.

Color is another interesting way to cover up white space in your email template. Simply add some color to the white spaces and create an enclosed border for those sections that do have the content. It will appear that the lack of content that you are experiencing in your HTML email is actually just a planned move to change the design of your template.

Advertising is also a way to use the hidden opportunity lying in the white space. When you have a significant amount of white space in your template, then it might be time to open your tracking reports, and if they are in your favor, then you can even sell out that space to internet advertisers and make some money out of it as well. If the figures are not in your favor then simply place your own advertisements there.

The last technique that you could use to mask white space in your HTML email template is to simply add some more interesting content that may not even be directly connected to the subject of the HTML email. Add some funnies or interesting imagery to create a visual distraction to your email template. You might be surprised as to how no one will be able to figure out whether this was on purpose or not. However, remember also that email clients with strict security settings will block image downloads and this could end up creating even more white space!
